Mixed Martial Arts for Children
We teach weekly MMA (mixed martial arts) classes to children. This is an exciting sport that helps build fitness and character through a wide range of skills. MMA is an exciting modern sport combining kickboxing, wrestling and jiu jitsu.
Self Protection for Children
Clubb Chimera Martial Arts led the way in its application of realistic teaching methods to children when Jamie Clubb wrote the critically acclaimed Reality Training for Children series of articles for Martial Arts Illustrated magazine in 2006. Today the British Combat Association consider CCMA as the "go to" place for children's self protection. CCMA teaches regular workshops and incorporates all relevant areas of personal security and self defence education into its grading syllabus.
The philosophy of our teaching and its principles are outlined in the tenets and oath below:
- Respect is the first thing taught to all new students. A student should have respect for themselves, other people and life in general. If you have respect for life you will have a full understanding of the importance of not misusing your training and, at the same time, have the will to preserve your and other people’s lives when threatened with violence.
- Awareness is at the foundation of self-defence. Without being able to identify situations that will compromise your life, there is no point in learning how to fight. The student must be alert at all times and never switched off. They should also be constantly aware of the changes in their life and the world around them. In addition to being alert to real potentional dangers, students are made wary of common myths. Our aim is to promote a healthy sense of awareness and not paranoia.
- Courage gives the student the drive to face up to his or her responsibilities and the task at hand. The student understands that everyone feels fear, but the key is to understand what frightens us. A good student will always have the courage to admit his or her mistakes. A good student will always have the courage to follow through with the decision they know is to be right.
- Discipline, like courage, is simply a decision that can be made by anyone. It is up to the individual student whether he or she will take discipline and be able to discipline themselves. Everyone is unique, but willpower is present in everyone.
- Open Mind does not mean empty head, and common-sense draws a firm line between the two. Clubb Chimera recognises that different conditions, cultures, circumstances and individuals dictate the path the various forms of martial arts took. Different students will specialise in different areas as they progress to the advanced stages of training. However, before they do this they will have a strong foundation in practical self-protection, a basic knowledge of all fighting ranges (striking, grappling and weapon work) and be of a good level of physical health.
Clubb Chimera Oath
I promise to uphold the tenets of Clubb Chimera Martial Arts. I promise to show respect to my fellow students, instructors and other members of society. I reject prejudice and negativity as I endeavour to improve myself and help others. I promise never to misuse my training.
