Boxing

Boxing is the most widely practised professional combat sport in the world. It is also a martial art with a rich history. Specialising in punching, boxers are also renowned for their footwork and upper body mobility. At CCMA we offer a variety of different paths you can pursue when learning this pugilistic system. Some clients exclusively train in Boxing. Others use it as the ideal base system and/or first stepping stone on their Kickboxing or MMA journey. Likewise, Boxing is strongly advised as the first complementary art for self-protection students to study after completing their basic personal security and self-defence training. Just interested in the fitness side? Why not try out a Boxing inspired Triple C Fitness classes. As with all CCMA classes, you can train by appointment on a one-to-one basis, as part of a couple or in your own self-organised group. We also offer workshops, bringing private clients together in a club-like atmosphere.

The Sweet Science

On the surface, boxing seems like a very simple martial art. That is part of its appeal. However, through our series of engaging games, you will quickly learn about its intricate variations and cultural stylisations. You will learn about sluggers, out-boxers, swarmers and boxer-punchers as well as the various ways different countries have developed their own unique styles and sub-styles of Boxing. Best of all, you will learn to develop your own personal style. Due to its wide prominence and long-established professional and amateur standing, few approaches come close to rivaling Boxing's use of footwork and upper body defensive options. Easy to start, but a never ending journey of discovery.

The Base Art

To put it bluntly, modern boxing is an art and a combat sport driven by the need to produce stronger fighters rather than fill classes. This has ensured a certain standard has been maintained in its development. Any martial artist who has a firm foundation in Boxing usually adapts well to other combat systems. Punches are our fastest natural weapon and are most often needed to set up kicks in Kickboxing, Muay Thai and MMA, as well as takedowns in MMA. Once an individual learns footwork through Boxing, movement in almost any other martial art will seem far less challenging. Furthermore boxing instills a sense of confidence through its highly effective upper body defences.

Self-Defence Attributes

Boxing is usually advised as our first choice for attribute development after you have finished a basic self-protection course. If you wish to continue your self-protection course, your first Boxing course will finish by adapting the sport's techniques to self-defence situations and you will also see how it has enhanced your hard skills. The sophisticated footwork is second to none and will both enhance your tactical escape training and your defensive positioning. Boxing's focus on developing punches, translates well to open hand strikes and other self-defence techniques. You will see how training in jabs support your boundary setting, how crosses will add precision to your straight palms, how hooks will give your power slaps real power and much more.
