Submission Grappling & Ground Fighting

Arguably the most sophisticated combat sport taught at CCMA, Submission Grappling/Ground Fighting has grown in popularity in mainstream society due to the rise in prominence of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Much of the appeal comes from the fact that live training can be undertaken at a fairly intense pace on a regular basis. This has led to the development of an intricate and ever evolving game of strategies and tactics, involving sweeps, reversals and positional control all with the objective of achieving undeniable proof of your abilities: the submission hold. Submission Grappling/Ground Fighting is the essential final component that makes up the skillbase to begin Mixed Martial Arts and also a highly recommended area of attribute training for self-protection. Just interested in the fitness side? Why not try out our Ground Fighting inspired Triple C Fitness classes? Ground fighting solo training is an exciting mat workout, comparable to a high energy yoga or pilates class. As with all CCMA classes, you can train by appointment on a one-to-one basis, as part of a couple or in your own self-organised group. We also offer workshops, bringing private clients together in a club-like atmosphere.

The Way of the Shark

The Machado Brazilian Jiu Jitsu family once confidently asserted that "When you go to the ground you are in my world. The ground is ocean. I am the shark. And most people don't know how to swim." Ground fighting in the form of Submission Grappling is a highly addictive form of physical fitness. The sport can be enjoyed as a sport in its own right or as vital component in MMA training. Regardless of your personal goal, you will learn an individualised game of leverage, movement, traps and escapes.

The Sophisticated Range

The sport has developed so far that the CCMA basic course is 20 hours rather the usual 10 hours. The first 10 hours focuses on the top game, where you will learn how to control and defend against pins. The second 10 hours concerns the guard, an intricate defensive position from underneath where you will learn to sweep and submit opponents whilst also learning how to defeat or pass this position from the top. Submission Grappling is a rewarding and fascinating combat sport of exploration.

Self-Defence Attributes

As a rule, the CCMA self-protection course teaches clients to avoid fighting from the ground at all costs. Unfortunately, non-consensual violence does always go or even start the way we would prefer. Training in a strong system of Ground Fighting will enable you to better develop attributes to regain your footing quickly and efficiently as well as gain good positional control if you have to stay there for a period of time (such as within the context of a citizen's arrest situation).
