Constraint Led Muay Thai for Veterans No Retreat No Repeat and No Easy Reads
If a fighter only looks good when the drill behaves itself, the drill is doing too much of the work.
This 1.5 hour private class with my veteran client was built around constraints. Not fancy ones. Not “coach has been reading weird books again” ones. Clear, nasty little rules that remove the comfortable answer.
No retreat. No favourite weapon. No starting when you feel like it. No hiding behind rhythm. No easy reads.
That’s where useful learning lives.

Constraints Led Muay Thai Sparring: Different Questions in Different Rounds
Sparring should solve problems, not rehearse bad habits at higher speed. This session with my veteran client used a constraints-led approach. The lesson ran across 12 rounds. Each pair of rounds had a specific rule. Each rule forced a different answer:close-range control, distance management, disguised entries, ring position, clinch entry, and limited-weapon tactics.

Muay Thai Personal Training: Building Combinations That Adapt Under Pressure
Muay Thai Personal Training
Combinations fail when they are memorised too neatly. Real opponents do not feed perfect targets. They move, cover, counter, and change the range.
This lesson continued my veteran client’s Muay Thai work in our private one-to-one classes. He has trained with me since 2014, so the aim was not to run him through basic combinations. He already knows how to jab, cross, hook, kick, knee, elbow, cover, and move. The aim was to make his combinations ad

Refining Karate Bunkai with Muay Thai Knee Strikes Through Structured Sparring
Kata application fails when distance, resistance, and recovery are left out. Knee strikes expose all three fast.
This morning my teacher client from Cotswold Karate School returned for a refresher on Muay Thai knee strikes. We have covered this material before. The point today was not novelty. It was revision with a clear end use.

Strategic Muay Thai Personal Training with Teeps, Clinch, Feints and Counters
Tonight’s 1.5-hour Muay Thai lesson focused on strategy under pressure. No long combinations for their own sake. No bag work to hide behind. Every round had a rule that forced a decision.
That is where good training starts to look like fighting. A student can have a clean round kick and still freeze when the distance changes. They can punch well on pads and still fail to exit after a clinch. Strategy fills that gap.

Countering the Long Guard in Muay Thai: A Comprehensive Lesson Report
03.09.2025
My 1.5 hour client focused on using and handling the long-guard in Muay Thai and we also did some hamstring strength training.
Next week I am booked to teach a special two-hour session to my friends from Hinnerup Karate in Denmark who are visiting my gym as part of their training tour. I have been asked to address the long-guard and therefore, saw this to be a perfect time to work with my longest running client and solve the problem.
We sparred for 10 x 10-min
