My final lesson of the day was a 1.5 hour boxing lesson with one of my longest-running clients. Last week we began work on the cross-arm guard concept. Tonight we reviewed the previous information, went into some finer details and then attempted to mimic one of Archie Moore's most famous exchanges. Archie Moore's famous knockdown of Yvon Durelle - slip jab to the inside/clinch and pivot/elbow block cross/frame off the rear arm/shoulder roll 1-2/short cross/pivot and continue to throw straight rights Now, it is pretty convoluted wishful thinking to consider being able to pull this off exactly in a fight, but going through it develops a great fluidity between ranges and maintaining a strong, mobile defence. I also showed how to vary from a mid and close range cross arm guard to a more standard low guard from long and edge of range. We then trained over 8 x 3 minute rounds: Round 1 - Counter punching on the focus mitts Round 2 - Body shots off the cross arm guard to belly pad Round 3 - Freestyle focus mitt work with an emphasis on the cross arm guard Round 4 - Sparring defence only Round 5 - Sparring head shots only Round 6 - Sparring body shots only Round 7 - Free sparring Round 8 - Free sparring https://clubbchimera.com/services/
