Okay, it's far from an original title even on here, but I couldn't think of a better way to describe some honest revisiting of solid foundational work. My client is on hour two of his third Boxing course with me and took advantage of the special free trial offer I give all my regulars in recruiting a newbie to our classes. This was an ideal opportunity to break down and examine key components in the sport and martial art.
We used the following 2-minute rounds:
following footwork in the mirror - forward and backward steps
shoulder tag escape game - call 1,2 or 3 to signal the number of times fighter intends to touch their opponent's shoulder before they can escape to the square behind
following footwork in the mirror - side-to-side steps
foot-stepping game - both opponents try to step on each other's feet
following pivot-steps in the mirror - with and without jabbing as they step four times in a complete circle
freestyle shoulder tag
footwork in the mirror - freestyle
freestyle shoulder tag with foot-stepping
jabbing on the heavy bag or focus mitts (alternating clients each round)
ditto
jab/straights on the heavy bag or focus mitts (alternative clients each round)
ditto
The levels of difficulty were adjusted on the focus mitts and heavy bag according to the client, so the more experienced client had plenty of other work layered in over their main punches.
