12.07.2023 Hour two of my client's early morning Muay Thai course. Today we decided to revisit and drill down some basics. We looked at developing a stronger upper body defence, linking it with stronger counter attacks and blending punches with elbow strikes. After our dynamic stretching sequence, we began with jab/cross/cover. This progressed to jab/cross/duck/cross/hook. I highlighted better lower body engagement with the cross (rear hand straight) and using the cover offensively. When covering it is important to press forward and have the entire upper body in a strong shell position. With the shoulders engaged, the chin down and the forehead fixed against the gloves, the fighter is in a strong position. Pressing forward they not only protect the fighter from the impact of the straight punches but should also unbalance and crowd the opponent. From here I had my client launch another jab/cross combination. She then ducked to avoid a right hook, which is another likely counter from an opponent in a "Hail Mary" response from the opponent. By bending the legs in the duck the fighter is given more momentum and drive to launch their counter cross. After the cross is thrown, the lead side of the fighter and the resulting movement from the opponent is a perfect setup for a lead hook. With this Boxing combination nailed, we switched to a Muay Thai variation. The counter cross became a rear hand horizontal elbow strike and the lead hook became a switch spear knee strike. The lesson finished with 3 x 3 minute rounds of pad-work, integrating both combinations into freestyle punches, kicks, knees and clinch-work. We concluded the entire session with a tabata of straight punches, knee strikes (alternate legs), round kicks (one leg per round), hooks and uppercuts.   https://clubbchimera.com/services/
