On Saturday, I conducted the first of two seminars for Costwold Karate School, focusing on Chimera Kickboxing. The participants were all under 10s, which is usually a prompt to play more games. However, given my approach is very gamified, this just made matters even easier. A good deal of what I have learned as a teacher comes from working with children. Their honesty and a willingness to engage more in principles rather than get tied up in techniques, allows me to cut straight to heart of better teaching. Having such enthusiastic youngsters as those who regularly attend Cotswold Karate School, testament to the hard work put in by founder Jack Heritage and his assistants, was just the icing on the cake.

The class included the following activities:
calling shoulder tag - teaching effective use of front and back foot as well as general reflexes
freestyle shoulder tag - reflexes and overall movement
foot-stepping - footwork
freestyle shoulder tag and foot-stepping
jabbing machine - drilling timing

jab only sparring
one-for-one teeps
"stinky foot" - counters to teeps
teep only sparring
jabs, crosses and teeps only sparring
low round kick one-for-one
shin-checks vs low round kicks
low round kick sparring
teeps vs low round kicks
boxing with round kick sparring
