Knee strike to head from clinch

Knee strike to stomach whilst grappling (b)

Tuesday night brought this particular client up to the penultimate hour of his 10 hour course in Basic Muay Thai for Martial Arts Cross Training. We went through the fundamental combinations, worked on the clinch and looked at counter-combinations.   The lesson began with the regular callisthenic warm-up and dynamic stretching before active engagement in mirror footwork. This developed into clinch-work, where we mainly concentrated on breaking balance and general movement. Here we began covering counter-movements; how to use hip movement to stop income strikes and then time it administer one's own. Then we spent the rest of our time on the Thai focus mitts. We used the teep to set up several combinations, including the low round kick and the one to four punch/kick combinations. We then used the shin-check to set up low and mid-section round kicks. This followed with a lengthy period on intercepting the mid-section round kick. Before moving onto kick catching again we looked at using it to set up low round kicks and jab/cross combinations, emphasising the importance on moving forward. We looked at different ways to catch the kick and the importance of breaking balance and then timing strikes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Ye8xaveOic https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Li-N2Uz8G7c
