The first hour of my teacher client's new course looked at defensive measures used to cover a puncher's exit. It's too easy to attack with a combination and forget about what happens afterwards. Usually in a combat sport, unless the attacker has landed a knockout blow, it is important to know how to effectively and efficiently move out of the pocket. Many fighters become vulnerable after they have attacked, not thinking about their next move, which should be move out of range.
We worked through a series of games designed to become more aware of the edge of range and also to immediately factor in defensive measures. These should also be remembered when training is transferred onto focus mitts or the heavy bag.
