Ground and Pound stoppage (Photo credit: parhessiastes)

We warmed up with some isolated solo technique work. Various standing and ground moves were covered and assessed, mainly focusing on the lower body. This did not become the theme of the lesson. Instead the class naturally evolved into dealing with obstructions from a sporting perspective.
We worked on the slip/jab/overhand right and also the set-up for the liver punch in stand-up fighting. We then moved onto clinch, where we explored trapping and locking off positions for knee strikes. We then went to the guard position on the ground and looked at using the various angular strikes on the upper body and head. Then we covered striking over and between a moving guard position. The lesson finished with three rounds of MMA sparring.
