Keeping to our promise, this month saw the second of my three-hour private client workshops. As described in the blog post of the previous workshop, these training nights provide an opportunity for my clients to meet up and focus on a specific topic. Last time we looked at live training practices for Boxing and Muay Thai. This time it was all about the grappling; specifically Greco-Roman Wrestling, Freestyle Wrestling and Submission Grappling. The lesson was roughly split into four sections - above waist only grappling, all-out stand-up grappling, top position ground fighting and bottom position ground fighting.

We used drills to set up the different stages. After drilling collar and elbow or over-hook and under-hook positioning, we specifically sparred to get dominant positions. I used foot stepping and hip touching games to isolate range manipulation. It is crucial to get the feet to target before executing a takedown. Likewise, hips are also a major factor. Then we re-layered in the various grips. I taught the pinch headlock as a spotlighted technique, bringing together the collar and elbow drilling with the over-hook/under-hook pummelling. The first section finished with a type of Greco-Roman Wrestling sparring.

The all-out stand-up grappling (Freestyle Wrestling) scaled matters back again as we isolated leg tagging. From here we layered in the grips. We also had opportunities to look at certain problems faced in sparring such as defending a leg-catch. Ground-fighting began with top position specific sparring. We did not look at submissions in this lesson. Upon moving onto the bottom position, I was asked to cover a couple of guard passes. We worked on going under and through the guard. The section (and the lesson) was finished with rounds of guard passing sparring. https://clubbchimera.com/services/
