This was the second of my client’s stand-up grappling for martial arts cross-training course. We continued our focus on above the belt grappling, moving from grips to throws. The lesson began with some a mirror footwork chase game before we revised bulling, pummelling and arm-drags. Then we put it all into practice with some grip-fighting. Before addressing throws I went through break-falls from the front, side and back followed by various rolls. This is not only essential for safety reasons when practising throws, but also promotes better recovery when grappling and can even lead to reversals when being thrown. Head locks are a primal grappling move, so they are easy work on at the beginning. We then looked at the take-down and the cross-buttocks throw. This followed by an introduction to the hip throw. http://youtu.be/lFhJb6VdS5Q http://youtu.be/ongeKGyAJwM
