Hour four of my new client's course brought us more onto the correct execution of jabs. So far, I have primarily been concerned about having my client learn good head movement (slipping) as he moves into range, moving laterally out of range and being generally sensitive to all ranges. These have been his building blocks, his foundation, for becoming a confident boxer. Such elements mean more to me than the punches let alone guards. From the beginning he has been told to tuck his chin in, further developing shoulder rolls as an incidental defence and keeping his hands up, although the latter is kept dynamic. This morning we began paying more attention to how he layered in punches, the most important of which is the jab.

We covered herding. He slipped to the right and countered with a solid jab. He moved to the inside using flicker jabs.
