18.07.2023 My second morning lesson was my penultimate teaching consultancy for Athena School of Karate. Today we continued with Muay Thai kick-catching and I introduced the spinning elbow. We looked at two different ways to catch a kick. This was the simple arm-wrap, usually applied when moving away from the kick, and the Dutch-block interception catch. The former was followed up with an arm-frame that changed to a trap on the back of the neck and a foot-sweep, resulting in a face-plant. For the latter, we gripped the leg below the knee and broke the opponent's posture by moving out at an angle before following up with a powerful spear knee. The lesson was finished with a kick-catch followed up with a spinning elbow strike. The spinning elbow was first taught separately. Its execution is very similar to a (spinning/turning) back kick. By using a kick-catch, the fighter can take advantage of an opponent's compromised balance that can lead to them dropping their guard. https://clubbchimera.com/services/
