With my client now on the eighth hour of his intensive 10-hour kickboxing course, and having just returned from a week-long holiday, I felt it was an opportune moment to revise and reinforce what had been previously learned. The structure of our training session today consisted of several 3-minute rounds, each designed to reflect on his progression and assess the skills he has acquired throughout the course. During these rounds, we focused on various techniques, including footwork, striking accuracy, and defensive manoeuvres, which are crucial components of kickboxing.
After each round, I took the time to engage in detailed discussions with my client. These discussions were not merely casual chats; rather, they were focused evaluations aimed at identifying specific areas that still require improvement. For instance, we analyzed his stance and how it impacts his ability to deliver effective punches while maintaining balance. Additionally, I provided feedback on his kicking technique, emphasizing the importance of precision and power in his strikes. We also revisited the defensive strategies he had learned earlier in the course, ensuring that he understood when to block, parry, or evade incoming strikes from an opponent.
Moreover, I encouraged my client to reflect on his own performance and share his thoughts about the aspects he felt confident in and those he found challenging. This self-assessment is vital for his development, as it promotes a deeper understanding of his personal strengths and weaknesses. By the end of the session, we aimed not only to reinforce the skills he had acquired but also to set clear objectives for the final two hours of training. This approach ensures that he remains focused and motivated, ultimately leading to a more comprehensive grasp of kickboxing techniques as he progresses through the course.
