19.04.2023 Wednesday night's 1.5 hour lesson began with a short warm-up on the focus mitts where I looked at range and clinch entries. We then completed 5 x 3 minutes sparring using Muay Thai matches as inspiration. Round 1 - Very light warm-up sparring Round 2 - Slightly higher tempo light sparring Round 3 - Full sparring Round 4 - Full sparring Round 5 - Warm-down lighter sparring with a few flourishes It didn't exactly mimic a Muay Thai bout. Firstly, we are both sparring so we are not actively competing. However, we consent to more contact in the third and fourth rounds. Also, we don't use the two minute rest period but stick to a more Boxing orientated one minute rest between rounds. The idea was to get an idea of Muay Thai tempo. There is a lot behind the unique way traditional Muay Thai matches are fought with a lot resting on culture and dictated by gambling. However, all of this helps us shape a more authentic idea of the sport that we train. After the sparring we reviewed areas my client felt he needed to improve upon. It returned us to the warm-up and specifically at closing the distance. We agreed that, going forward, lighter sparring on the whole was required to help build better exchanges and promote more engagement. I also had him work very defensively against the focus mitts, helping him to walk down an opponent. This section was then finished off with more work on the round kicks. https://clubbchimera.com/services/
