30.10.19 My junior lesson revised all pin transitioning and then looked at escaping side control. My senior lesson focused MMA defence. My junior client drilled transitioning around the body, maintaining control throughout as a fluid exercise from both sides. This was then repeated under mild pressure. We then looked at defending side control to gain the guard position. Here we focused on raising the hips and snaking out. We looked at the use of the elbow and the knee as wedges for when space had been created by the snaking movement. The MMA senior class began the stand-up range. Here we began with prompting shin-checks into round kick retaliation off both the checking leg and the non-checking leg. We then looked at the use of a low guard and the shoulder roll, baiting jabs and setting up the cross. Next the cover was brought in as a means for attaining clinching positions and takedowns whilst defending strikes. Moving to the ground we covered sweeping the pound and ground posture as well as submissions with the Kimura, arm-bar and leg-triangle chokes. The lesson finished with a five minute round of MMA sparring focusing on defence.
