General Lesson
The lesson focused on attack and defence from the mounted position. We looked at the cover, the bridge and the snake for the defence. This moved into half-guard and taking the back. From the attacking top position we set up for arm-bars with strikes.
Sparring was mount position specific. We then warmed down with some shadow boxing and stretching.
Private Lesson 1
We continued with our technical theme and I ran through the angling/targeting/timing exercises working around the jab, the cross, jab/cross combination, hooking combination, front kicks and round kicks. We then went over the three lines of attack for clinch. Next we went through the basic three submissions from closed guard, paying particular attention to the oma plata (shoulder lock). The lesson was finished with some sparring.
Private Lesson 2
Yet again I upped the level of intensity and emphasized more self-coaching. My two clients held the mitts for each other and sought to improve each other’s responses. We began with some blitzing to warm up. Next we covered the fence and pre-emptive striking. This was followed by instinctive combinations. Then we went through the cover. Next we did some multiple attack drills. Finally we looked at sideways movements for multiple attackers, emphasizing the importance of keeping on one attacker and not allowing another to get close. Seeing that this needed some work I had both cleints do a mirror footwork game.
