General Lesson
The focus of today’s lesson was on the top game and transitioning through pins. We based it on a set movement exercise transitioning from side control to scarfhold to northsouth to side control to side control to knee pin to side control to reverse scarfhold to full mount to knee pin and back to the beginning. After transitioning we added increasing resistance from the person underneath and then we covered submissions from each position. The class finished with specific sparring from a pin of choice.
Private Lesson 1
Speed was tonight’s theme. We began with some light boxing sparring and then some focus mitt work. This was followed with some light Thai boxing and then some Thai pad work. This was followed by various arm-drag drills, focusing on gripping and re-gripping as well as countering at speed. At the client’s request, we looked at attacking the guard. This began with a simple standing up exercise, which can be improved by practicing frog jumps.
Private Lesson 2
Tonight’s self-defence lesson continued from last week’s theme of multiple attackers. We warmed up with side-steps footwork. This was then taken onto a two-on-one focus mitt exercise. This was followed by an exercise concerning the problems caused by a well-meaning person who tries to restrict a defender from effectively defending themselves. We then did some pressure testing. I was still concerned with power development and really wanted to make some progress this lesson. Last week it was more to do with the confidence and assertion, which we got through. This time I wanted my clients to have sufficient impact. We used the resistance band and some restrictive training. Technique improved and we were all happy with the results.
