Wednesday night's 1.5 hour Muay Thai class concentrated on what has become the sport's most important weapon, the teep. This spear-like kick works along similar strategic and tactical lines as the jab in Boxing, but it's delivery as a push-kick is not an exact equivalent. The teep gauges range, defends distance and sets up the widest variety of attacks.
The lesson was divided up into these 3-minute constraints-led games and specific sparring exercises:
One-for-one teeps
One-legged teeps (left kick)
Ditto (right kick)
Teeps only sparring
Teep vs catching kicks
Ditto
Teep vs any counter
Ditto
Teep vs any attack
Ditto
Clinch sparring
Full Muay Thai
The lesson finished with a stretching workout including PNF stretching.
