Retaining, Regaining and Transitioning through the Butterfly Guard (diary entry)

10.11.24 Hour eight continued my client's work on the butterfly guard. Our muscle activation/dynamic stretching warm-up included butterfly guard movement exercises. These were performed both as solo exercises across the mat and as partner drills working elevations and arm-drags. The 5-minute games were as follows:

  1. Pass guard from behind one shin versus regain butterfly guard

  2. Pass half-butterfly guard versus regain butterfly guard

  3. Move behind shin or remove one hook versus sweep from butterfly guard or transition to full guard

  4. Free sparring
