Switch again (diary entry)

General Lesson

Training began with a series of extra muscle activiation exercises specifically chosen to enhance training outside of class times. This covered all three ranges and incorporated shadow boxing. We then looked at multiple partners training, which became the theme of the lesson.

We went back over “The Switch”. These are exercises on the focus mitts where two or more coaches put pressure on a student and regularly change the dynamic from self-defence to sport and back again. This was followed by multiple attack sparring.

Private Lesson

My two students began with a revision of basic self-defence pre-emptive striking and escape. This led us onto responses from edged weapon attacks. This began, as per usual, with escape responses. We then covered use of incidental weapons. The section was then finished with use of the fence and controlling the weapon hand. This led us off on a grappling tangent, focusing on the arm. We covered the arm-drag, taking the back and rear chokes. This was then transferred to the ground, drilling the movement from the butterfly guard
