19.12.20 Saturday morning's second lesson was my eighth hour with the Ryukyukan Okinawa Karate and Kobdudo, Matsuri Dojo teaching children's self-protection as part of my "When Parents Aren't Around" course. We are in our third hour of anti-grappling. When things go wrong and a person is grabbed matters can really go bad, especially with children who are likely to be dealing with disproportionately larger threats. This morning we revised all previous grappling material from the clinch plus escaping the mounted position and striking when being grappled (collar tie, wrist grip and under-hook). We overlapped the hunting drill taught previously to help build up good behaviours. I want students to be minimising their time being clinched. Questions included adapting whilst handicapped or injured. This a vital and under-looked part of self-protection training. I explained how to further break down more difficult movement, using them as a focus and to gradually build up adaptations that suit the individual. https://youtu.be/apWdtjzlntc
