10.10.2023 Today’s online teaching consultation with Drum Martial Arts and Fitness in Ireland brought us into hour six. We finished this current teaching block with a discussion on my new extended and combined KEWAP/CCMA seminar material. The presentations raised some very interesting deep dives into teaching self-protection in relation to edged weapon awareness and in general. "Never give in", as previous covered, relates to developing an individual's will in a life-threatening situation. Temporary compliance in certain situations does not mean you have "given up". This is not a competitive situation but about life-preservation. We discussed the reasons why young people might carry weapons and unpacked the dangers of an individual who displays such a weapon. Situations typically involve someone carrying an knife for a range of reasons, including self-defence, and then feeling a time when they have to draw it with no intention of actually hurting someone but ending up doing so in the heat of the moment. Other situations, which are more common, involve the individual effectively arming their offender when it is revealing they are not earnest about using the weapon. A discussion how weapons are used in revenge prompted two interesting talking points. Firstly, we discussed how a "double tap" might occur when one person loses an unarmed confrontation and then comes back armed to "even the score". A secondary discussion brought up how in different violent societies vengeance is deemed necessary, even if it isn't justifiable. We discussed the door industry of yesteryear where bar security was supposedly assured by supervisors who asserted their dominance over any troublemakers. This meant that no sleight could go unavenged. Whether this was simply contextual of the time and place or actually just perpetuated more violence is a subject of debate. The KEWAP PINs prompted discussions on appropriate times to pre-empt an imminent threat. This moved into lesson points about flanking and off-setting an adversary. Finally, we looked various impact factors both from the point of the offender and the defender. A very important lesson coming from this part included the importance of physical fitness.   https://clubbchimera.com/services/
