12 years ago (see this blog post for the full report)(also here) I met Peter Jones at Andrew Rheeston’s Shinkenmi Ni Tesseyo Karate hosted seminar, where I taught both a children's and an adult's self-protection workshop. The experience would lead onto to me teaching f0r Andrew Rheeston again for a couple more times, work with Leigh Simms which continues to this day and my first ever 2:3 WPAA/VW seminar and a webinar on guards in stand-up fighting, which was booked by the aforementioned Peter Jones. Today I was booked by Kajuen Ryu Ju Jutsu again to attend their club's 20th (and 10th) anniversary (in essence, the 20th anniversary of Peter teaching his club but the tenth anniversary under the Kajuen Ryu banner). I was one of five teachers booked to teach 2 x 1 hour sessions for the junior and adult students on the day. The other teachers were Gary Harper, one of the Kajuen Ryu teachers, Guy Gratton teaching for the British Kempo Society, Keith Cooper teaching Aiuchi Jiu Jitsu and Rosi Sexton who taught Submission Grappling and Self-Defence.
The day was a fun, laid back five hours of teaching and training in traditional martial arts, combat sports and self-protection. My experience was focused on teaching my children's self-protection programme based on "When Parents Aren't Around" and "Animal Instincts" as well as "Vagabond Warriors" martial arts cross-training.

The junior lesson focused mainly on tactical escape training with Predator versus Prey and child fence concepts. The adult lesson used The Switch. We contrasted fence pressure testing with Cuban Boxing should tagging, and used Feedback Loop Training on the focus mitts.

It was great meeting up with some familiar faces and being introduced to new people. Gary Harper, a solicitor in criminal law by trade, was an extremely gracious and helpful assistant to me in my junior section. Gary has been present on some of webinars and has a wealth of useful information. I was also delighted to meet British professional MMA veteran fighter, Rosi Sexton and be of some assistance to her during her junior and adult lessons. Her junior lesson looked at some great principles and games for attacking and defending side control. Her senior lesson provided yet more nuances in managing threat levels in self-defence, and finished with transitioning into combat sports.
A few points I was happy to see in Rosi's work that are often neglected elsewhere included: Understanding scalability of a counter-assault in a self-defence situation and selecting tactics/techniques with an exit strategy in mind.
