The Head as a Limb (diary entry)

2on1 weapon restraint5 (small)

This was my client’s seventh stand-up grappling/clinch lesson. We revised the three lines of attack, going through headlocks, cross-buttocks throws, hip throws, double and single leg takedowns as well as arm-drags and countering the single leg. Using the arm-drag as a starting point we discussed the application of the head as an “extra limb” in grappling. I demonstrated the two-on-one from the arm-drag in some specific sparring. From here we looked taking the back, going for a single under hook and a standing shoulder-lock. We then looked contingency techniques for counters to the shoulder lock. These consisted of the shoulder throw and the single leg takedown. A very nice variation on the two-on-one into a figure of four not taught in the lesson, but along tonight's theme: http://youtu.be/DrfJxcqjphs
