04.11.2023 My "Vagabond Warriors" special workshop on martial arts cross training was taught after my children's self-protection seminar. This is the first part of a stand-up grappling/wrestling orientated lesson plan. Today we drew inspiration from Greco-Roman Wrestling and then later layered in Mixed Martial Arts. We began with the collar and elbow tie using it to dominate and break posture. I introduced circle stepping and how to use both ties effectively. From here we moved into the side headlock and a sag takedown, emphasising the reoccurring theme of strong positioning creates technique. Next we moved onto the over-hook and the under-hook and how to dominate from here. We moved into taking the back and using waist-lock lock takedowns as well as under-hook takedowns. I also trained the two-on-one and its counters as well as arm drags into takedowns. Finally, the pinch-headlock was introduced which combined both these holds. From here we trained the pinch-headlock takedown and the crunch takedown. The last stage of the workshop involved layering in strikes. We used the collar/elbow-tie to execute spear elbows, chopping elbows, horizontal elbows and slashing elbows all to the body. The under-hook was used to set up shoulder bumps. I then had everyone spar these in some light body-shot sparring from the clinch. This is a great way to introduce close-range weapon sparring. The lesson finished with a drill off the wall - over-hook/under-hook into shoulder bump/spear knee/slashing elbow off both sides before being reversed. https://clubbchimera.com/services/
