17.05.21 Monday night's lesson provided me with an interesting challenge. My two partner clients arrived at number 14 again, for the first time on the focus mitts, and there were a few adaptations I needed to make for one of them. You may recall during our previous Zoom sessions that one of my two clients underwent a knee operation. He trained all the way up to the operation and only took out one less afterwards. We have been working hard to ensure that he benefits from these rhythm and flow combinations that we have transferred from shadow boxing work to remote instructed pad-work via online Zoom lessons and now, with more restrictions lifted, I can finally drill him on the focus mitts. Much of this work has been gradual trial and error. My client has come to conclusion that pivoting on his bad knee still causing him a lot of pain afterwards so, erring on the side of caution I decided to change any technique that requires this action. He is also a southpaw so it has been interesting throughout his rehabilitation to change around the combinations so they make some logical sense. In this instance a lead leg switch-round kick was swapped for a switch-teep. Combination 14 is peculiar in its use of two Dutch blocks off both sides. These techniques are used to load a lead hook and a cross which are used to set up opposite side round kicks to the body. DON'T MISS OUR VAGABOND WARRIORS ONLINE TRAINING WEBINAR ON SUNDAY 13TH JUNE.
