My senior client's fourth hour of his current Boxing course looked at his fighting style again, but he also wanted to measure his pull-up progress. The latter I usually save for his alternate strength and conditioning lessons, but given he is starting to get some neutral grip partials I agreed it was a good idea. He did three sets of partial neutral pull-ups, three sets of scap pulls (pronated grip) and six sets Australian/reverse rows with one leg suspended.
A free-sparring round exposed issues regarding defending range. His style suited a more armoured defence, but more at an out-range. We worked on him using the jab more defensively and looking to set up shots rather than just exchanging in the pocket. By switching to a couple of rounds of front foot versus back foot, I was able to better demonstrate cutting off the ring and escaping corners. Finally the last two rounds pitted attack against defence to look ways to better adapt his guard.
