Building Flow in The Thai Clinch

My teacher client from Cotswold Karate School returned for the ninth hour of his course. We are onto his second lesson of Thai clinch.

During this class we looked a few flow drills to get him used to throwing knee strikes and breaking posture as well as defending them. The curved knee is especially relevant here. Curved knees, although usually less powerful than spear knees, are probably more common in a typical clinch. This is due to both nak muays keeping their hips close their opponent in order not allow room for the spear knee. Curved knees are not as easy to defend and are then typically thrown in around the sides as both fighters try to dominate the clinch.

The drills, although compliant in nature, help create the feeling of flow and couples the grappling with striking. We then took integrated it into Thai clinch sparring.
