General Lesson
We continued on the theme of the long-guard. Here we revised the single leg and the basic sweep before moving onto the x-guard. From here we explored knee-bars and ankle-locks. This led us onto the clinch range and defence against the back position. We countered with the rolling knee bar. Training concluded with MMA sparring.
Private Lesson
After a brief warm-up of specific positions and footwork we focused on fighting against the wall or cage. This is another defining feature of this combat sport and is often neglected. As MMA continues to evolve and mature, it is important to look at areas that are perhaps neglected because they do not make up the main arts that are part of MMA training. We covered boxing combination work off and into the cage. This was followed by kicks, striking at clinching range, wrestling, defence under the mount and the guard. The walls of the cage provide the fighter with various advantages and disadvantages for a fighter, depending on his position.
