25.04.2023 Hour eight of my client's Muay Thai brought us back to sparring and I was keen encourage better countering behaviour. After the usual mobility and muscle activation warm-up we started matters with some very light sparring with no protective equipment. Open hands replaced punches and kicks and knee are thrown with minimum contact. It is a great way to focus more technique placement and targeting. Protective equipment was then added and we used a one-for-one format with kicks. Teeps and round kicks were thrown in exchange to promote faster reactions. In Muay Thai fighters are expected to reply with their own shot if they are hit to show their willingness to fight. We then switched to blocking and countering using the same format. This was followed with specific sparring rounds: Round 1 - Kicking counters to jabs Round 2 - Kicking counters to crosses Round 3 - Kicking counters to jab/cross (including interruptions) Round 4 - Punching counters to teep Round 5 - Punching counters to round kicks Round 6 - Punching counters to all kicks Round 7 - Clinch only sparring. https://clubbchimera.com/services/
