My second lesson on Monday the fourth hour of my couple clients' Submission Grappling course. We have been entirely focusing on the key-lock, mainly the Kimura and also the Americana. Tonight we looked at countering the move, which opened up a lot more opportunities, setting up for a variety of sweeps and other submissions.
The lesson plan went as follows:
3 x 3-minute rounds - bicep control vs getting Kimura position (objective to pin both arms on the mat against getting the hold). This round gave the person countering a more positive role rather than avoiding getting their hand on the mat.
6 x 3 minute rounds - achieve submission with Kimura vs break the hold. This round highlighted the importance of better positioning, One fighter looked get their hips in the right position in order to achieve the submission. The other fighter sought to block the hip and posture.
