10.09.2023 I was invited to teach a two-hour self-protection seminar for a group of 12-14 year-olds as part of a birthday party. We began with the definition of self-protection, establishing the legal definition of self-defence (hard skills) and personal security (soft skills). We then went through some simple escape games, layering in role-play, engaging bystanders and quarrying techniques. Using the quarried techniques - straight and round strikes - we trained targeting hands and heads. Then we discussed boundary setting and building fences. Preemptive striking was tested and then all of it was brought together on the focus mitts. I then brought in incidental combinations and we chained on tactical escape. Moving onto regaining the initiative we went over the cover and performed it with a code white test. The cover was then trained whilst transitioning through kneeling, seated and lying down positions with striking. These were then brought into a multiple attack situation with one student fighting their way through these positions and eventually escaping. We also briefly touched upon scaling down assaults and looked at insidious assaults along with likely offenders. The lesson finished with a discussion on the post-fight - reporting, emotional trauma and residual effects of the chemical cocktail - and questions and answers. I cannot express how inspired and hopeful such bookings make me feel as a self-protection teacher with an especial interest in making young people safer. The switched-on parents who booked me for this birthday, the enthusiastic and sensible reception of the class, and the feedback I received afterwards were very encouraging. https://clubbchimera.com/services/
