23.03.2022 My first group at Kingham Hill covered anti-grappling. My second group revised the fence, moved onto the cover and we discussed what constitutes attitude. The first group began with the hunter exercise in order to reinforce the forward pressure objective even when faced with being posted by an enemy. It also serves as a good training tool for the target holder who will play the role of a grappler. We then moved onto learning a series of basic grappling grips. This important in order for students to be able feed an anti-grappler a realistic attack. From a self-defence perspective, a defender should only grapple when they have no other options or if an incident is a mid or low level one. Therefore, after drilling the various grips the next stage is to have one student grapple with one hand and hold a focus mitt with another. Next we moved onto extra tools should the enemy properly clinch. With their back up against the wall and an enemy pressed against them, the defender is taught to drop down in order to be in the best position to respond. From here they use eye gouges, head butts and elbow strikes to create enough distance to go back to forward pressure striking. The second group went back through the fence, moving onto incidental combination. They then were introduced to the concept of the cover. From here they drilled regaining the initiative using a code white exercise (begin with the eyes closed to simulate surprise), covering and overwhelming the incoming strikes. Covers need to be adaptable, always used with forward pressure and restricted to tempory use before countering. The session was finished with a discussion on "good" attitude. Here we talked about not being drawn into consensual violence and to have strong enough values to be able to walk away from unnecessary conflict. We discussed responsibility and the 10/80/10 rule. https://clubbchimera.com/services/
