We continued our theme on dealing with obstructions. This began with some specific sparring in guard. We divided training up into striking around obstructions inside a closed guard and then an open guard. Next we moved onto the “touch-the-head” game. This was followed by specific training with the hook guard and then we drilled the knee-bar from this position. We moved onto clinch, focusing on striking with the hands. This specific training with the condition that one hand held and the other struck.
We then moved onto the Gypsy Game. This form of specific sparring, taken from the Keysi Fighting Method, consists of both fighters clasping each other’s hand striking with the other whilst transitioning through different ranges. This forces both fighters to work around an obstruction. We then moved onto the focus mitts, working on clearing obstructions and striking over them. This followed by some "friendly"resistance pad-work with on student gripping the other from behind. The class finished with a warm down and static stretching.
