The final lesson of the evening was my couple clients' MMA personal training lesson. We are into their second hour of shoot-boxing. Shoot-boxing is the name I give to all the stand-up MMA fighting. Our current focus is on blending above the waist or Greco-Roman Wrestling with Boxing. A big part of MMA training these days, especially when transitioning from other combat sports, is wearing MMA gloves. The smaller gloves mean a lot of adapting has to be done to guards from Boxing, Kickboxing and Muay Thai. So, tonights rounds of specific sparring were more based around familiarising my two clients with grappling whilst wearing these gloves and handling the punches. My lessons often evolve organically and tonight was no different. I discovered that more work needed to be done on throwing techniques.
The lesson went as follows:
Rounds 1-3: Greco-Roman Wrestling with MMA gloves
Round 4: Shoot-Boxing with Greco-Roman Wrestling grappling conditions
Technical break: Training the rear waist-lock takedown and the cross-buttocks throw.
Round 5-7: Greco-Roman Wrestling with MMA gloves.
