Single Legs and Counters (diary enrtry)

The fifth of the CCMA’s course on stand-up grappling/clinch for martial artscross training added the single leg takedown and some counterattacks. As per normal, began with a warm-up of neck wrestling, bulling and pummelling. We then revised entries into headlocks and cross-buttocks throws, standard hip throws, suplexes, waistlock takesdowns and various inside and outside reaping throws. These were all then done to full conclusion. We also drilled arm-drags and counters. Our main technique was the single leg takedown. This is a very effective tactic, which allows for a wide range of contingency plans if it goes wrong and does not compromise the attacker as much as a double leg takedown. We looked at three variations on the takedown: a standard leg trap, a very lowline attack and a throw. Then we looked at a counter from a failed arm-drag into a double leg takedown, the sprawl against a double leg takedown (the end position can look like what is happening in the archive picture) and the counter said sprawl using a sit-through.
