03.10.2023 Today’s online teaching consultation with Drum Martial Arts and Fitness in Ireland brought us into hour five. We went back over material covered at Navan Wing Tsun's hosted seminars. The teacher in question attended my "When Parents Aren't Around" seminar in Ireland last weekend. I discussed the progress of "When Parents Aren't Around" and how KEWAP needs to be booked in future. We discussed the way self-protection teaching best be approached in order to get the most out of sessions. General self-protection is a good starting point. It's important to make this as comprehensive and as concise as possible, especially with the hard skills. Soft skills need to be emphasised but they also need to be taught in an engaging way that actively involves the class rather than just as a lecture. This is why I use awareness walking exercises and Joe Saunders' blink drills are important. After general self-protection, conflict management might be explored in more detail. This area is getting a lot more attention these days thanks to teachers like Richard Dimitri, Pamela Armitage, Tammy Yard-McCraken and the aforementioned Joe Saunders. There is definitely room to teach courses that have a heavier focus and specialise in a certain area of management and prevention such as social violence, gender specific violence, child violence or weapon-specific violence. https://clubbchimera.com/services/
