At hour five of my senior client's fifth course, I thought it was time we put all our attention on landing the uppercut. Of the four basic punches in boxing, the uppercut is arguably the hardest to land. However, it's amongst the oldest and when it does hit the spot everyone takes notice.
I split our sparring rounds up into two tactics: lead and long range uppercuts coming off jabs and when an opponent's back is up against the ropes, and angled peek-a-book style attacks after slipping the jab.
The lesson finished on the heavy bag, bringing everything into one round and then a final round of speed and power uppercuts.
