My couple client had a double lesson today, covering hours six and seven of their course that is mainly focusing on Boxing and the lead hand. We are currently working around of a thumb injury, preventing one of my clients from using her right (dominant) hand.
After our usual muscle activation exercises, our lesson was made up of the following exercises.
2-minute rounds with 1 minute rest.
One-for-one lead hand punching

Jabs only sparring

Body shot only lead hand sparring

Bodyguard sparring (the picture shows me doing it for the first time in a Mo Teague seminar) develops a range of useful attributes. One person is forced to engage directly with the bodyguard in order to access their principal, forcing them to continuously advance and use footwork to get around them. The bodyguard has to both match the footwork of the attacker and show spatial awareness of the principal they are protecting. The principal has to match the bodyguard and the attacker's footwork.* The lesson finished with 9 x 1-minute rounds with 15 seconds rest. These rounds were all focused on a core/abdominal workout, advised as good finishers for Boxing training. We all sparred 6 x body shot only rounds (one client lead hand only) and 3 x core exercises (jab/cross sit-ups/hook twists/plank punching). *Note that although I was using a bit of close-protection terminology, this isn't an exercise that necessarily has direct relevance to actual body-guarding. https://clubbchimera.com/services/
