Kickboxing Personal Training
This morning's Kickboxing Personal Training class was the fifth in my new client's course and his first in 2026. He works at our local hotel, but his permanent home is very far away, making my flexible private training schedule an ideal way to suit his needs. Shift workers, especially those with regularly changing timetables, find this type of training to be ideal. They get in intensive learning experiences due to the private nature of the lessons plus I can work with them in arranging different days and times.

Countering and Blending Kicks and Punches
Today we decided to continue our work from the previous lesson in getting my client more acquainted with chaining kicks onto his boxing and making necessary adjustments to his boxing base to accommodate defending and delivering kicks. My structured sparring rounds looked at common punches that counter kicks and vice versa. The final round took three core combinations from these rounds onto the heavy bag.
The Switch Kick
These rounds also gave me the opportunity to teach the switch kick. I taught it as a step kick and coordinated with the rear hand straight punch or cross. My client was encouraged to throw a cross before stepping forward with the side leg and then throwing a round kick from the other leg. The step is then shortened and made more explosive to develop the switch kick.
