22.05.18   Tonight, my client began his first lesson in a course on Stand-up MMA/Dirty Boxing. This was a course we discussed and I designed based on my client’s desire to focus on utilising Muay Thai in MMA. We have just finished his second course in Muay Thai and he has completed his first course in MMA.   Training began with pure Muay Thai techniques. We ran through some basic combinations linked to the clinch. Then we sparred for a round. From here my client uncovered some useful tactics, which we then explored on the focus mitts. We specifically looked at the push away from the clinch into a round kick. This was combined with basic clinching and striking in the clinch. These tactics were then put under pressure. We then put on the MMA gloves and started exploring some dirty boxing concepts. This was primarily in the form of trapping, sweeping, readapting Muay Thai clinching techniques and applying strikes from these positions. A key area we covered was blending every grip, trap and push with a strike. For example, we used an over-hook/under-hook pummelling drill that set up for a series of strikes. One arm under-hooked whilst the other hand punched the exposed target as the opponent tried to get his under-hook in.
