08.08.2023 Tonight's final hour of my client's Muay Thai course finished off our muay mat series of classes. After 4 x 2 minute rounds of drilling and sparring we looked at two combinations used to tackle a muay femur (technical fighter) and a muay khao (knee fighter). Our warm-up was the usual dynamic stretching and sport-specific callisthenics before we moved into some rounds. Round 1 was round kick countering. Round 2 was round kicks to the body. Round 3 was double round kicks to the body. Round 4 was free sparring. Although we have been muay mat centred it was important to look at aggressive constant pressure, one of the main characteristics of this type of fighter. Coaching for the muay mat combinations was on a single focus mitt, held in the American style, and kick shield to encourage bigger, more powerful low kicks. The main principle behind the combinations was to jab high, cut an inside angle and then attack the lead leg. Attacks against muay femur were directed against their teep. Muay femurs are like out-boxers. They are technical fighters who pick their shots and this often means using the teep a lot to set up shots. Here we took advantage of a descending teep and kicked it as soon as it touched the ground. Similarly the muay khao's knee strike was intercepted from the same inside angle. However, this time we mixed in a round kick to the inside of the thigh followed by a jab and then the big outside kick. https://clubbchimera.com/services/
