This was the eighth hour of my teenage client's private Boxing course. Tonight we lused constraints-led sparring to teach better footwork. We looked at several footwork patterns and isolated them in drills and sparring exercises.
Pendulum step - Outside versus inside boxing (attack vs defence)
Ditto - Pendulum stepping boxer fights on the outside vs opponent staying in one spot in the middle
Pivot step/V-step - boxer counters only off a pivot vs opponent only moving forwards (attack vs defence)
Ditto - attack vs counter attack
L-step - boxer counters off L-step vs opponent only moving forwards (attack vs defence)
Ditto - attack vs counter attack
Shift step - boxer counters off shift step vs opponent only moving forwards (attack vs defence)
Ditto - attack vs counter attack
All above footwork vs lineal footwork - attack vs defence
Ditto - attack vs counter-attack
Free-sparring - integrate all footwork
Focus mitt work - all the above on the mitts
