08.01.20 My junior and senior regular double lesson resumed for 2020 with a focus on the arm-bar from mount for the junior class and an overall look at MMA with component sparring rounds for the senior class. The junior class began with some simple ground-fighting callisthenic exercises – crawls and snaking (hip escape). We then drilled the pin transitions from each side. Next we moved onto the mount which is the final original pin of the drill. From here I showed the versatility of the mount just with basic submissions before we focused on the arm-bar. We spent a lot of time getting the set up good and ensuring everything was in place before the technique was fully executed. The senior class began with mirror footwork moving onto focus mitt ranges. This started with boxing combinations to the focus mitts and the belly pad combined with dirty boxing clinching. Then we did some Thai clinch using the belly pad. I then brought in kicks and we then finished this section with striking in the guard from both kneeling and standing. We quickly moved onto the slap-down parry/jab set up for the rear slap-down parry/collar-tie/cross combination. This was done in application and on the focus mitts. Next we went back to the dirty boxing combinations we covered in the previous lesson. The lesson then moved onto 4 x 5 minutes of sparring. Each round focused on one discipline: Western Boxing, Muay Thai, Wrestling and Submission Grappling.
