24.04.2024 My 1.5 hour client switched from Boxing to Muay Thai tonight. We adopted a similar approach to this art, isolating certain techniques and pitting them against their respective defences. Under a constraints-led approach to live training, the client to forced to make their own decisions and discover their own answers to certain problems. Restriction breeds creativity. After a dynamic stretching and sports-specific muscle activation warm-up, we went through the following 14 x 2-minute rounds:

  1. Jab/lead teep versus defence

  2. Ditto

  3. Jab/cross/lead teep/rear teep versus defence

  4. Ditto

  5. Lead hook/lead & switch round kick versus defence

  6. Ditto

  7. Lead hook/rear hook/lead & switch round kick/rear round kick versus defence

  8. Ditto

  9. Lead uppercut/lead & switch knee strikes (all)/clinch versus defence

  10. Ditto

  11. Lead uppercut/rear uppercut/lead & switch knee strikes (all)/rear knee strikes (all)/clinch versus defence

  12. Ditto

  13. Elbow strikes (all)/Clinch versus defence

  14. Ditto

We sparred for 3 x 3 minute rounds

  1. Clinch (all strikes)

  2. Ditto

  3. Free-sparring
