The father and son duo resumed their training with me today. This is great quality time one-to-one. In this instance the father client has prior training and fighting in Thailand his six year-old son began training with me on and off last year. Training is a balance of working through basics together, working with the father to help train his son and timed round workouts for both.

We went back to basics with jabs, straights and lead hooks as well as teeps, shin-checks, basic hand defence and rear leg round kicks. This was all done using line-work. We didn't focus much on footwork today for a change but more on balance. The switch-kick was deconstructed for easy learning. This began with adding on a simple shuffle after punching combinations. Next week, we will look at learning the step-kick and then begin merging the two actions to produce the switch-kick.

The final part of the lesson consisted of 4 x 3 minute rounds with active rest between for father and son (I took them individually on the pads for alternate rounds), followed by a tabata of straight punches, skipping knees, right leg round kick, left leg round kick, hooks, shoeshine uppercuts, skipping shin checks and skipping teeps.
