15.08.2023 Hour one of my client's new course on Boxing began on Tuesday night. He is embarking on a journey to a charity match in November, so my aim is to get him in good fighting shape. However, he is trekking up Mt. Kilimanjaro next week so I was also wary about not over-exerting him. Areas covered: Agility Ladder - For better footwork and combat coordination. I began introducing more advanced ladder drills to get him moving better and harmonising his footwork with his upper techniques. Specific Sparring - In the pocket sparring and body-shot only sparring designed for him to better handle fighting under pressure as well as afford more contact whilst managing injury risks. Out-boxing versus swarmer sparring so that he can work the opposite: getting out of trouble and picking shots at a long range. Resistance Band Footwork - Maintains good stance control to ensure consistent balance and good abductor strength. Shadow Boxing - Assessment of weaknesses and focus training. This was trained with and without boxing gloves. The former was to maintain the familiarity of fighting with gloves on whilst the latter was more of a speed emphasis. Focus Mitts - Time to check those weaknesses and focus. We only worked simple combinations. Broad Jump Training - A good explosive strength test. First I assessed tuck jumps and depth jumps to ensure he was landing correctly. Then we began lengthening his broad jump distance, setting a 3 metre target for future. Shuttle Runs - We trained 3 x 6 reps of shuttle running 4 metres. This will eventually be upped to 9. Trains raw agility fitness, providing greater control and acceleration and deceleration as well as safeguarding against injuries. https://clubbchimera.com/services/
